‘In a great spot,’ Matt Hagan topped Funny Car Qualifiers in Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Minnesota
BRAINERD, Minn. – Defending event champion Matt Hagan topped the Funny Car qualifier Saturday during the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at the Brainerd International Raceway.
Combined with lead scorer Robert Hight for the final races of the day, Hagan ran 3,843 seconds at 331.36 mph in Tony Stewart Racing’s Dodge Charger Hellcat SRT. Topped the qualifiers for the fifth time this season and finished 48th overall. He has three wins this year.
“It’s impressive to do that, especially when there’s sunshine,” Hagan said. “It’s a testament to this track and the NHRA’s preparation. I just think about what we could run if the cloud overlay didn’t work. [But] we are in a great position tomorrow. We need to make sure we’re number 2 [in points] and make sure we start the Countdown to the Championship in a great place. “
Top Fuel points leader Brittany Force also comes in at No. 1. As a four-time winner this year, she has 3,661 at 334.65 for sixth No.1 of the season and 38th overall. .
