India, France Discuss Afghanistan, Threats from UN Sanctioned Terrorist Organizations

During a counter-terrorism meeting in Paris, India and France on Tuesday shared their assessment of the evolution of the terrorist threat across their respective territories and in their regional environment. They also stressed the need to ensure that the territory of Afghanistan does not become a source of radicalization and terrorism and is never used to threaten or attack any country or to shelter, recruit recruit or train terrorists, or plan or finance terrorist attacks in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2593 (2021).
They also exchanged views on threats posed by terrorist organizations and individuals sanctioned by the United Nations and stressed the need for coordinated action against all terrorist networks including al-Qaeda. -Qa’ida and ISIS / Daesh, as well as Lashkar e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish -e-Mohammad (JeM) and Hizb-ul Mujahideen, etc., including ensuring that the perpetrators of terrorist attacks brought to justice in a systematic and expeditious manner.

India and France stressed the need for all countries to ensure that the territories under their control cannot be used to plan or carry out terrorist attacks against any country. any other country, sheltering or training terrorist fighters.
During the 15th Meeting of the Joint Working Group on Combating Terrorism in Paris, the two sides also exchanged views on considering terrorist individuals and organizations as one of the tools to combat terrorism. According to a press release released by the MEA, “Both sides exchanged views on different areas of cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism, combating arms smuggling and illegal drugs, and expressed willingness to continue sharing information on fighting extremism and violent extremism, combating terrorist financing, preventing the misuse of the Internet for terrorist purposes or violent extremism, against organizations and internationally designated individuals.
The participants in the meeting were Mahaveer Singhvi, Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism) at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and Philippe BERTOUX, Director for Strategic Affairs, Security and Disarmament at the Ministry of Europe and French Diplomacy, leading respective inter-agency delegations consisting of high-ranking officials and experts to discuss ongoing counter-terrorism cooperation as a cornerstone of the strategic partnership between the two countries. countries, especially in the Indo-Pacific region.
The next meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism will be held in India in 2022.
