India’s power consumption rises nearly 10% to 70.66 BU in April
The ministry has expected peak electricity demand of 260 GW between April and June due to the expected longer period of heat. Peak electricity demand reached an all-time high of 243 GW last September.
India's electricity consumption rose nearly 10% year-on-year to 70.66 billion units in the first half of April, indicating improved economic activities and consumption patterns. Peak electricity demand met increased to about 218 GW during the period compared to 206 GW in the same period last year. The power ministry expects peak power demand of 260 GW between April and June.

Experts say Indian consumers are increasing their energy consumption for appliances and gadgets similar to the trend in developed countries, a news agency reported.
Increased use of electricity in buses, cars, three-wheelers and railways has also changed consumption patterns and increased per capita electricity usage, they added.
