Instagram brings news feed in chronological order with ‘Following’ and ‘Favorites’: How It Works

Instagram on Wednesday announced Favorites and Follows, two chronological news feed options for users on the service. These feed options will allow users to view recent posts from the accounts they follow on the platform, in the order in which they were posted. The service says users will be able to easily switch between both the Favorites and Follows feeds – and revert to the default Home feed showing rated and mentioned posts output, in non-chronological order. The Meta The ownership service discloses that users who choose the Following feed will see posts from the accounts they follow on the service. These will be displayed chronologically, showing the user the latest posts from their friends. Default Instagram The ‘Home’ feed is designed to show users ranked posts in non-chronological order, affected by many factors including account interactions, user activity, information about the post, and who uploaded it.

Instagram users will also have access to a new Favorites feed that will allow users to view posts from specific accounts, such as close friends or their favorite creators. Users will be able to add up to 50 accounts they follow to their Favorites list, which can be modified at a later stage. Instagram says that users won’t be notified when you add and remove them from your Favorites list. While posts from these users will be displayed in chronological order, Instagram also revealed that these accounts will be shown higher when the user switches back to the default Home feed, not Order Time.

The Favorites and Follows feed is first discovery of the feature tracker Alessandro Paluzzi in September, but the feature was not rolled out to users at the time. Gadgets 360 was able to verify that the feature was enabled and working on iOS earlier on Wednesday.

To switch to the new Follow and Favorites feed, Instagram users can tap Instagram in the top left corner of the app on the Home feed, then tap either Next or Favourite. Exploit Favourite the first time will ask the user to add the account to the list, by tapping Add favorite Selection. Users can switch back to the rated feed at any time by tapping Next or Favourite at the top of the screen and select House.

Instagram initially offered a single photo stream in chronological order when it was launched in 2010. However, as more users started joining the service, it became difficult for users to see all of the posts. posts from people they already follow, according to the company. Last year, the company disclosure that in 2016 users missed 70% of all posts in their feed, which fueled the growth of ranked feed. Instagram told Gadgets 360 that it won’t default to its new chronological feeds, as its research shows that people are more satisfied with ranked feeds.
