TOP STORY: Dybala caught the eye amid Juve drama
Serie A leaders Inter Milan had a strong squad, but were struggling financially, so they turned their attention to players whose contracts expire in the summer, said Gazzetta dello Sport.
The big name in the report is Juventus‘ Paulo Dybala, who is at the center of many concerns in Turin, as the Argentinian has yet to sign a contract extension despite months of negotiations.
Dybala seemed to stare at the Juventus directors after scoring in the team’s net Win 2-0 on Sunday against Udinese in an apparent gesture of frustration, then said: “I have nothing to prove to anyone. The club has decided that we will speak in February or March.”
While there is no indication that Inter has made any move, CEO Giuseppe Marotta is monitoring the situation carefully. If Dybala’s contract is allowed to end, there will likely be a lot of competition for his signature in the summer.
With a deal for Ajax Amsterdam Goalie Andre Onana pretty sure – as has been the case for some time – Inter is also working on signing Borussia Monchengladbach focus back Matthias Ginter. This may involve moving for Germany international this window, instead of waiting for him to become a free agent, to avoid further competition in the summer.
Inter could also switch to a midfielder if one or both Matias Vecino and Stefano Sensei departure, while extension is being done for Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic.

10:20 GMT: Rennes, Real Madrid and two unnamed Premier League clubs have sent scouts to Brazil to track 15-year-old Palmeiras wonderkid Endrick, according to ESPN Brazil.
Endrick is still without a professional contract with Palmeiras but the Brazilian club are confident of keeping the striker due to their good relationship.
09.58 GMT: Corinth ready to move Diego Costa However, according to ESPN Brazil, the 33-year-old will have to take a pay cut if he wants to continue his career there.
ESPN Brazil says Corinthian is expected to offer him a two-year contract in the coming days to convince him to make the move. Costa, who recently parted ways with Atletico MG, is currently a free agent and is also expected to return to La Liga or the Premier League.
09.40 GMT: Sporting Lisbon president Frederico Varandas has confirmed his club are interested in signing the England winger Marcus Edwards from Victoria Guimaraes.
A Tottenham youth product, Edwards stood out at Vitoria Guimaraes, scoring seven goals and netting two more in 16 league appearances. It is also not the first time Sporting has attempted to sign the player.
“I will not lie,” said Varandas Record. “He’s a player that Sporting, our coach, is interested in. He’s interesting and has been in our sights for a while but at the time we didn’t come to an agreement. One thing is you like something and another you put the sustainability of the club at risk.”
Edwards, 23, joined the Portuguese club in the summer of 2019 as a free agent. He has a contract until June 2024.
09.33 GMT: Dutch midfielder Tony Vilhena Yes joined Espanyol on loan for the rest of the season from FC Krasnodar.
The LaLiga club have an option but not an obligation to make a permanent deal with the 27-year-old this summer.
09.14 GMT: Sevilla have reached a preliminary agreement with Getafe for loan Oscar Rodriguez for the rest of the season, Andalusian club announced.
The Spaniard joined Sevilla from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020 and has made 44 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla.
09.02 GMT: Spanish second division club Almeria has rejected an offer of 16 million euros from Shakhtar Donetsk for Largie Ramazani, based on Estadio Deportivo.
The Belgian winger joined Almeria on a free form in the summer of 2020 after his contract with Manchester United expired.
Ramazani, 20, has scored six goals in 18 appearances for Almeria this season and has a contract until June 2025. Following Almeria’s decision, Shakhtar signed the Ajax winger. David Neres permanently transferred in an initial €16 million deal.
08.50 GMT: Boca Juniors’ goalkeeper Agustin Rossi said he was surprised to be a reported target of Barcelona.
Report in Spain claims Barcelona are tracking Rossi as a potential replacement Neto, who is expected to leave during the January transfer window in search of game time after failing to knock Marc-Andre ter Stegen out of the No 1 spot.
When asked about those reports, the 26-year-old said ESPN Argentina: “I’m a bit surprised by what could happen. Today it’s just a rumour. It’s good to be linked with a club, more so a club like Barcelona. I’m training and just thinking. about Boca. Then we’ll see if anything comes up. My head is in Boca.”
Rossi has a contract with Boca until December 2023.
08.39 GMT: Celtic manager Ange Postecoglu has confirmed that the striker Leigh Griffiths will be released by the club this month.
Griffiths, 31, has scored 123 goals for Celtic in 261 appearances since signing for them in 2014, but he has been loaned out to Dundee this season and will not return to play at Parkhead.
“I think that’s over, yes,” said Postecoglou Sky. “Leigh is currently looking for the next chapter in her career. An outstanding football career at Celtic.
“All of us, we go through clubs, but you want to leave your mark there when you do that. Leigh has certainly done that. I think he can look back on his career. Celtic with great pride and he will continue to take the next chapter in his footballing career. We wish him all the best.”
Dundee coach James McPake has indicated he may be interested in signing his former Livingston team-mate on a free transfer.
08:00 GMT: Brentford is in talks to sign Christian Eriksen on a first six-month contract, sources told ESPN’s James Olley.
Eriksen, 29, is a free agent after his contract with Inter Milan was terminated last month after that. Italian health authorities refused to allow him to compete with an implantable heart device.
Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland last June and received life-saving treatment on the pitch before being taken to hospital.
He was then fitted with an implantable defibrillator (ICD). Serie A regulations forbid any player from using such equipment, but Eriksen believes he can continue to play at the highest level.
And Brentford is said to have offered a six-month contract with the option of an additional year. Negotiations are said to be in the early stages and sources have told ESPN that a number of clubs in England and other countries are talking to Eriksen’s representatives about a possible deal.
