Into Mischief Colt ends Derby with a well-deserved performance from a rising star
Brad Cox’s barn was perhaps a little quieter than usual for most of Saturday’s GI Kentucky Derby cards, but it did reveal the one in the finale who could very well play a role in the big races at the end. this season with a ‘Rising star TDN’– worth mentioning.
Reduces 8-5 bias from sharp-looking, purebred Godolphin works Flicker (Into Mischief) leaps out of the portal from his tall window and quickly obliterates. He passed strong splits of :21.73 and :45.34, and never looked back to increase the score to about five lengths in a split of 1:08.71. Usually second place Bourbon Heist (Realistic jokes) finished exactly sixth of his career.
Strobe is the fourth winner of his five races out of the dam Flashing (AP Indy), winning the GI Test S. and GI Gazelle S. and third in the GI Mother Goose S. in 2009 when awarded Officially coached by Saeed bin Suroor. Flashing is the daughter of Morning Pride, who won the G3 Prix du Bois 1999 as a juvenile for coach Andre Fabre, while the deeper female family includes Canadian champion Key to the Moon, winner GI Kentucky Oaks Seaside Attraction and GISW Gorgeous.
Strobe, Floodlight’s half-brother (Medaglia d’Oro), SW & MGSP-Fr, $111,885, is 31 ‘Rising Star’ for his full conquest males and, after not producing a foal in 2020 or 2021, have most recently been covered by Street boss.
