Isaac Cruz vs Giovanni Cabrera in May or June
Via Craig Daly: Former lightweight world title challenger Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Giovanni Cabrera is a done deal for May or June.
This is an exciting match in which the winner will be in a solid position to take a title.
‘Pitbull’ Cruz, 24 years old (24-2-1, 17 KOs) wants nothing more than a rematch with 135 lb ‘regular’ WBA champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis after a close loss in the 12th round. determined against the undefeated Baltimore native in December 2021.
Although ‘Pitbull’ Cruz asked Tank Davis for a rematch, he was not interested in making that request to him.
Since then, Cruz has won in a row over 41-year-old opponents Yuriorkis Gamboa last year and Eduardo Ramirez.
Mike Coppinger said: “A lightweight bout between Isaac Cruz and Giovanni Cabrera will take place this summer in the US. GAME. “The match is scheduled to take place in May or June.
One match ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is said to have turned down was against Shakur Stevenson, a match that would put him in a position to challenge for the WBC belt if he wins.
How well Shakur is fighting, you can’t blame Cruz for turning down the fight because the chances of losing would be very high.
The fan-friendly Pitbull Cruz is rated #2 WBC, #4 IBF, #4 WBO and #6 WBA. He could fight for one of the lightweight titles if current undisputed 135 lb champion Devin Haney leaves his four belts empty.
Cabrera (21-0.7 KOs) is ranked #8 IBF and recently had a unanimous decision in the 10th round against Gabriel Flores Jr.
The 22-year-old former amateur star Flores Jr was once a boxer who was considered an unmissable star for a time, but after defeats to Luis Alberto Lopez and Cabrera, his career was not as bright as before.
The 28-year-old Cabrera does not possess much strength but is an outstanding boxer. Pitbull Cruz will need to find a way to consistently approach the 5’8″ tall Cabrera to hit his big shots as he won’t be able to do so easily.
That would be the ideal situation as Cruz would likely take the lead if he had to fight Shakur for the WBC belt if it were left vacant.
An interesting fight will be Pitbull Cruz vs Gustavo Lemos (28-0, 18 KOs). Lemos 5’5 1/2″ is built the same way as Gervonta Davis, and he’s a fiercely built puncher.
Like Pitbull Cruz, Lemos is a completely relentless pressure fighter. He’s a more aggressive version of Pitbull Cruz and a better physically fit puncher.
