Italy’s consumer confidence index up by 0.4 points in April 2023
Regarding the business confidence environment, the Economic Sentiment Index (IESI) index of the Italian National Statistical Institute (Istat) increased slightly from 110.1 to 110.5.
The confidence environment in manufacturing fell from 104.1 to 103.0. Both production expectations and order book assessments deteriorated, with the associated balances shifting from 8.4 to 6.5 and from -7.6 to -8.3, respectively, while inventories were improved. assumed to have increased, the variable balance moves from 3.9 to 4.3.
Italy’s Consumer Confidence Index rose slightly from 105.1 to 105.5 in April 2023, with consumer economic confidence improving from 117.4 to 119.0. The manufacturing confidence environment dropped from 104.1 to 103.0 due to worse expectations for production and assessment of the order book. The Retail Trade Confidence Index also fell from 115.7 to 113.0.
Employment expectations also show more favorable signs; the balance of the variable increases from 9.7 to 11.2.
Assessments of business trends and order book expectations changed for the better—the relevant balances moved from 8.5 to 10.0 and from 5.8 to 10.4, respectively. . In contrast, the rating on the order book worsens, the balance of the variable decreases from 9.0 to 7.7.
The Retail Trade Confidence Index fell from 115.7 to 113.0. In particular, negative signs come from opinions and even to a lesser extent sales forecasts; the relevant balance varies from 34.8 to 29.8 and from 26.0 to 23.2, respectively. Finally, inventory is considered to have increased slightly, the actual associated balance increased from 5.5 to 6.1.
