Jaime Munguia stopped passing Gonzalo Coria in the third round
Jaime Munguia is waiting to take part in a meaningful 160-pound fight. In the meantime, he’ll have to be satisfied beating opponents like Gonzalo Coria.
Munguia (41-0.33 KOs) knocked out the two-time dominant Argentinian en route to a third-round knockout on Saturday night in Guadalajara, the former’s third straight win. 154 pounds against a second-rate competitor.
The 26-year-old Mexican is expected to face rival John Ryder last month, which will be an important match.

However, that war was lost. And he ended up facing the dominant Coria, who was stopped by defending champion Janibek Alimkhanuly after two innings in October 2020.
Munguia added a ring to increase Coria’s size… then lowered the lever.
A right-handed blow to the face sent the underdog sitting behind him for about two minutes into the 2nd Half. Coria was not badly injured but he looked sketchy after the unfortunate moment, as he was mostly holding and move to avoid Munguia’s heavy blows that followed.
Then, towards the end of the third and final round, Munguia delivered a series of punishing body blows, followed by several more powerful blows, that brought Coria to her knees. In that position, while counting, he shook his head to indicate that he had no intention of getting up.
The official stoppage time is 2:32 of the 3rd half.
Munguia, who has fought seven times at 160 or higher, now hopes to put the money to adjust the battles behind him. He wants a title.
He called up titleholders Gennadiy Golovkin (IBF and WBA) and Jermall Charlo (WBC). Munguia and Charlo have spoken before but Triple-G seems to be the more likely opponent as both he and Munguia are affiliated with DAZN, the organization that streamed the match on Saturday.
Indeed, the 40-year-old Kazakh seems to be the main target.
“This year we couldn’t do Charlo, but hopefully we can next year,” Munguia said. “But I also know that Gennadiy Golovkin does not compromise and does not sign anyone. We really want that fight to happen in May.
“Golovkin, see you in May!”
