Jake Paul was defeated Tyron Woodley once, so what’s in it for him the second time?
Sure, there’s money. And Woodley needed an opponent shortly after Tommy Fury’s retreat, so who knows what other options there are even. But the story is much more than that.
While it may seem like a turning point for some, Paul told MMA Junkie on Monday that he doesn’t think Woodley will be the only one able to boost their stock with a win on Dec. 18.
“For me, the biggest takeaway is proving everyone wrong from last time thinking he won, which is hilarious – including the judge who made the split decision,” Paul said. in a virtual press conference. “Obviously, he’s in another fight. But for now, I’m going to go back and take this guy down. I mean it only shows up when I say, ‘Anyone, anytime, anywhere’. And most fighters are not like that.
“And for me, anyone, anywhere, anytime, early in my career, fighting eight rounds in my fifth game, that’s unprecedented.”
It’s been an important talking point for him throughout his tenure as a professional boxer, but Paul reaffirmed he wants to prove to viewers that he’s entered the world of combat sports to win. win – not just to make money.
“People just need to realize how serious I am and a lot of other professional boxers don’t train as hard as I do,” Paul said. “They weren’t as prepared as I was. And like, Tommy Fury, he pulled out of the fight over some silly, petty thing. I fought with a broken nose. I fought with illness. The list goes on and on.
“The last match, against Tyron, I was hypnotized. I did not say anything. Why? Because it doesn’t matter. I will still go in there and find a way to win. That’s my motivation, it’s to win. ”
Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley 2 takes place December 18 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla., and airs on Showtime.
