By Vince D’Writer: On Tuesday night November 7th DiBella Entertainment presents the “Heroes On The Hudson” card, an event that will be headlined by former WBO junior-lightweight champion Jamel Herring as he takes on Nick Molina (13-0, 5 KOs) at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, airing live on DAZN.
The “Heroes On The Hudson” is a boxing event to support the veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Prior to the professional portion of the card, amateur bouts sanctioned by USA Boxing will have five matches featuring a military veteran or NYPD officer.
The main card consists of four world class professional bouts that includes a matchup for the IBF Inter-Continental title between former two-time world champion Miyo Yoshida and Shurretta Metcalf. The headliner features a former world champion who will either continue his journey with a win, or call it a career if he loses.
A product of Rockville Centre, New York, Jamel Herring made his professional boxing debut back in December 2012 when he defeated Jose M Valderrama by unanimous decision. Seven years later Herring capitalized on his opportunity, when he beat Masayuki Ito by unanimous decision and won the WBO junior-lightweight title.
Over the next two years, Herring would have three successful title defenses. On the night of October 23, 2021 Jamel Herring stepped inside the squared circle to defend his title against rising star Shakur Stevenson. The young challenger dominated the contest as he defeated Herring by way of 10th round TKO.
Seven months later, Herring returned to the ring trying to get his career back on track. Unfortunately for Herring, his opponent was too fast, and he had a high work rate, as the prospect Jamaine Ortiz scored the unanimous decision upset victory.
Now after losing two fights in a row, the former world champion Jamel Herring (23-4, 11 KOs) has reach the point of his career where tough decisions have to be made. Before Herring makes a career defining decision, he wants to test himself against an undefeated opponent.
On paper the 24-year-old Lowell, Massachusetts native Nick Molina seems to be a formidable opponent. That is until you take a deeper dive into his resume, and then you will notice that only two out of his thirteen wins have come against boxers who held a winning record.
Despite the fact that Nick Molina is a journeyman type of opponent, the 38-year-old Jamel Herring is using this bout as an opportunity to grade his skills to see if he still has what it takes to perform at an elite level.
“I chose this fight because if you can’t get past Nick Molina, how can you get past world champions, the Joe Cordinas, Emmanuel Navarretes, Hector Garcias?” Herring said on the Big Fight Weekend podcast.
This fight on the night of November 7th features a journeyman Nick Molina who has nothing to lose and everything to gain versus a former world champion who faces the dilemma of win or go home.
