Jamie Chadwick of England wins W Series season opener in Miami
Britain’s Jamie Chadwick got off to the perfect start to claim a third W Series title, winning the opening race of the all-women’s championship season with a final round win at the Miami Grand Prix on Saturday.
The 23-year-old defending champion, representing Caitlyn Jenner’s Jenner Racing team, held the checkered flag after regaining the lead from Finland’s Emma Kimilainen at Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium.
Kimilainen, who overtook Chadwick before the second safe car period, then collided with Spaniard Marta Garcia, who finished second.
Jessica Hawkins of England, the driving ambassador for the Aston Martin F1 team, took the final podium.
The half-hour race comes before qualifying for the inaugural Formula One Grand Prix in Miami, with a second W Series race set to be held on Sunday.
Britain’s Alice Powell, who finished second overall with Williams F1 development driver Chadwick last season, stopped in the front row and then crashed into a wall in Round 7, bringing the safety car out and then a red flag. .
Spaniard Nerea Marti started badly from the pole, as Chadwick took the lead and finished eighth.
