Jan Dhan Account Cross Deposit 1.5 lakh Crore in December 2021

Deposits in Jan Dhan’s bank account, opened in mid-2014 after the launch of the flagship government scheme of the same name, exceeded Rs 1.5 lakhs through December 2021, according to the data. official.
According to the latest data from the finance ministry, the total balance in more than 44.23 Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts was Rs 1,50,939.36 as of December 31, 2021.
PMJDY, the National Task for Financial Inclusion, completed seven years of implementation last August. It was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech on 15 August 2014.
According to the Ministry of Finance, out of a total of 44.23 crore of accounts, 34.9 crore went to public sector banks, 8.05 crore to regional rural banks while the rest was 1.28 crore with private sector banks.
In addition, 31.28 PMJDY crore beneficiaries were issued RuPay debit cards. It can be noted that the number of RuPay cards and their usage has increased over time.
According to the data, Jan Dhan’s 29.54 accounts are held in rural and semi-urban bank branches. Nearly 24.61 crore account holders are women as of December 29, 2021.
During the program’s first year, 17.90 PMJDY crore accounts were opened.
RBI guidelines state that there is no minimum balance maintenance requirement in Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts, including Jan Dhan accounts.
Depending on the transactions made by the Jan Dhan account holder, the balance in any Jan Dhan account may change daily and may even become zero on a particular day.
As of December 8, 2021, the total number of zero balance accounts is 3.65 crore, about 8.3% of all Jan Dhan accounts, the government informed Parliament last month.
The goals of the government’s flagship plan include ensuring affordable access to financial products and services.
Benefits such as scholarships, grants, pensions and Coronavirus relief funds are credited to bank accounts, including Jan Dhan Accounts, through direct benefit transfer (DBT).
