The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US capital consisted of seven Democrats and two Republicans.
It was chaired by Bennie Thompson, a Democrat from Mississippi, a Capitol Hill veteran who also chairs the House committee on homeland security.

Liz Cheney, the top Republican on the panel, who was attacked by pro-Trump factions in her party for participating in the proceedings. The Wyoming lawmaker and the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney were among the only 10 Republicans to vote to impeach Trump for his role in the attack on the US Capitol.
Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois who voted with Cheney to impeach Trump for his role in masterminding the Capitol attack. Like Cheney, he became a pariah in the Republican caucus in the House and will not run for re-election in the fall.
