Jesse Armstrong of Shades King Charles’ successor at the Emmys
Maker Heir can take the crown for the most awkward joke at Emmy Award.
Heir‘S Jesse Armstrong made a stab at King Charles III while going on stage to accept the Outstanding Drama Series award at the 2022 Emmys on September 12. Also nominated in this year’s list is Better to call Saul, Happiness, Ozark, Quit, Squid game, Strange things and Yellow jacket. (See all Emmys 2022 Winners Here.)
At the ceremony, held four days after the death of Queen Elizabeth IIArmstrong joked about Charles’ succession to the throne.
Suggesting it was “big for the UK succession”, Armstrong said, “Obviously, the number of votes involved in our victory was a bit more than that of Prince Charles. I don’t say. that we are more legitimate than that position — we’ll leave that to others. We’re incredibly grateful to have this great honor.”
Star Brian Cox seemed to try to stop it, saying, “Keep it royalist, keep it royalist.”
Armstrong continued by shouting out his “extraordinary” cast and crew, which included Strong Jeremy, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun and Matthew Macfadyen.
