Jesse Rodriguez faces Israel Gonzalez in the same card feature Canelo vs. Golovkin 3 on September 17
Via Allan Fox: WBC super flyweight champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez will face 10th place contender Israel Gonzalez in a card tie match Canelo Alvarez vs Gennadiy Golovkin III on September 17 on DAZN. The game will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Israeli 25-year-old Gonzalez (28-4-1, 11 KOs) is NOT the fighter boxing fans want to see Bam Rodriguez (16-0, 11 KOs) defend next, but the fight at least would be good for comparison purposes.
Fans wanted 22-year-old Bam to defend against WBC No. 1 contender Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, but it was too big of a fight to be placed in a major support match.
Chocolatito will likely face the next Juan Francisco Estrada in a three-part match and the winner of the match against Bam Rodriguez for unification.
Israel Gonzalez was recently defeated by Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, Khalid Yafai and Jerwin Ancajas. He’s a tough fighter who won’t be easy on Bam.
This fight will probably go on for a full 12 rounds because Gonzalez has an excellent chin, and Bam is not a giant puncher.

Bam Rodriguez is close to a knockout round of 16 win over former 115-lb WBA two-time champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on June 25. It’s a stellar win, and some boxing fans believe it. that Bam is ready to take on Chocolatito and Juan Estrada.
In fact, 35-year-old Rungvisai is nowhere near the boxer he fought 4-5 years ago when he twice defeated Chocolatito and Estrada. He slowed down, and his strength didn’t seem to be on the same level as when he defeated those two.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “I am delighted to make Jesse the first boxer to hit the net of a spectacular night on September 17. “Jesse is the hottest property in the sport right now. hours after his electric performance in the first half of 2022 and he is looking to build that on the biggest possible foundation.
It’s likely that Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn will wait until Chocolatito and Estrada have aged a bit before he sets up a fight for Bam Rodriguez against one or both of them.
For now, Chocolatito & Estrada is said to be too talented for Bam Rodriguez and will embarrass him and ruin smart promoter Hearn’s hopes of turning him into a massive star attraction.
But if Hearn waits two or three years until Chocolatito and Estrada slow down the way Rungvisai and Carlos Cuadras, Bam can beat them.
If those fights were to happen now, this writer would not give Bam any chance of victory because he is too defensive and lacks the offensive skills that two talented boxers possess. Bam also doesn’t throw as many punches as Chocolatito & Estrada, which would put him at a significant disadvantage.
