first. The Dowthe S&P 500 and Nasdaq is preparing to open in silence ahead of Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s lunchtime speech at the Economic Club of Washington D.C. Nearly a week ago, the Fed raised rates more gently — and Powell, at the time, made comments that were deemed dovish. Then on Friday, the jobs report was a blockbuster.
2. Activating blizzard (ATVI) vs Take two interactions (TTWO): the latter blames the macro environment while the former just had a brilliantly successful quarter. The video game “Call of Duty” is a game of adventure and a major regulatory concern at the heart of the Holders Club. Microsoft‘s (MSFT) has proposed to acquire Activision.
3. be enticed Outdoor shower bed (BBBY) taking advantage of memes who could have saved another company. Shares, which nearly doubled on Monday, fell more than 30% early Tuesday after the retailer announced a stock offering worth more than $1 billion. Wedbush cut its BBBY price target to 0 and left the underperforming (sell) rating unchanged.
4. Pinterest (PINS) gets multiple upside targets on Wall Street due to cost cuts, video and shopping. But there is no real growth. Most of the internet has no real growth. Fourth quarter EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) beat. Lost revenue. $500 million worth of stock buybacks over the next 12 months allowed.
5. Boeing airplanes (BA) cut about 2,000 finance and HR jobs. However, the plane maker, which recently moved its headquarters to Northern Virginia, just outside DC, expects “significant growth” in its overall workforce by 2023.
6. DuPont (DD) was higher than adjusted earnings per share for the fourth quarter and above revenue. But puts first-quarter EBITDA guidance at $710 million versus $762 million expected. Announced to increase Q1 dividend of 9%. CEO Ed Breen works on a discretionary basis after 2024, according to SEC filings. Replace Breen’s existing employment agreement in December 2020.
7. Hertz (HTZ) beat EPS and adjusted revenue in the fourth quarter. Business demand increased 28% in January compared with last year, carpooling increased 98% and international growth increased 56%.
8. Morgan Stanley interest rate Molson Coors (TAP) a weight or hold equal. It is not known if the brewer can develop sustainably. We like and own constellation brand (STZ) for its Mexican beer portfolio.
9. Chegg (CHGG) reported a terrible quarter but had to accept it. The real learning platform is to blame for the lack of rigor in the classrooms. Shares fell about 20% early Tuesday.
