Via Jack Tiernan: Coach Joe Goosen says lightweight star Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) will go undefeated his entire career.
Goosen has a rough diamond Ryan Garcia’s takeover is still unfinished, and here’s his chance to complete the process of making him a star at the age of 135.
Goosen is taking over Eddy Reynoso as a coach for WBC 2nd lightweight contender, Garcia, and he reckons he has the talent to beat many of the top 135 lb contenders in an instant.
Reynoso may regret not getting time to work with Ryan, as he will need a replacement for aging star Canelo Alvarez.
Ryan, 23, revealed last week that he had to move Reynoso because of timing issues. With Reynoso having his full hands with
23-year-old ‘King Ry’ needs a trainer ready to get him ready for his April 9 fight with Emmanuel Tagoe (32-1, 15 KOs) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Goosen says Ryan is ready to beat the best
“I think his next fight [againt Tagoe] will tell a big story,” Joe Goosen told Fighthype when asked when Ryan Garcia would be ready to challenge for a world title.
“I think there are a lot of people at the top that he can beat today,” Goosen said of Ryan being ready to beat the best at 135 as he walked in the door as his new coach.
“With that said, that usually belongs to his management team and promoters, and I leave that to them.
“If they throw a name out there and throw an opponent, then I’d say, ‘Okay, if that’s the guy you guys picked and Ryan is okay with that, then we’ll deal with that and We will strategize and plan the game against that particular opponent.
“Right away, it’s stupid to look over at him that we’re going to fight,” Goosen said of his focus on Ryan Garcia’s next opponent, Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9.
“I let the rest of the management and promotion team guide that path. I believe we will be available to anyone,” Goosen said.
Ryan can test Goosen’s opinion on whether he’s good enough to beat this year’s best, as some believe he will challenge George Kambosos Jr. for his four lightweight titles, as long as he beats Emmanuel Tagoe in their title on DAZN on April 9.
Beating Kambosos Jr would be a huge win for Ryan, putting him in a position where he could earn a ton of money defensively against Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis, Devin Haney or Vasily Lomachenko.
Since Ryan is not required for any of the Kambnosos’ four belts, it is likely that there will be a rematch clause in the contract.
Ryan and Kambosos will fight a second time, and it will be another big money clash for King Ry.
Ryan Garcia will never taste failure
“I have said it before. Ryan Garcia will be undefeated in his entire career. That’s how I think he’s good,” Goosen said. “I am not saying that about many fighters. I work on him. He’s special, very special.
“I’m winning a little bit right now, I’m very excited. Ryan and I had some contacts, and we were both ready to go. Great. I packed my things and hit the road tomorrow morning. Let’s start on Monday,” Goosen said.
It’s hard to imagine how popular Ryan would be if he could go undefeated throughout his entire professional career. Even the great Oscar winner De La Hoya could not keep his undefeated record throughout his entire career.
Although Floyd Mayweather Jr is undefeated throughout his entire career, he didn’t become a star until he was in his 20s. Ryan is on his way to becoming a 23-star, which is hard to believe.
