Via Scott Gilfoid: Joe Joyce believes he will beat Tyson Fury to win the WBC heavyweight belt next year. The 6’6″ tall Joyce says he’s fought Fury, and from those bouts, he feels he can’t beat him.
Joyce jumped into the ring last Saturday night to rescue my good friend Oleksandr Usyk as Fury insults him after the win over Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium in London.
Usyk was tongue-tied, unable to speak, and verbally punished by Fury. Joyce comes to Usyk’s defense and confronts Fury and lets him know he’s ready to fight. It was completely Fury’s mood, and it was clear that he was threatened.
With Fury slowing down with age and adding softness around his midsection, he can depend on Joyce’s powerful stab and superior inner game.
It’s a fight Fury would have had a better chance of winning when he was younger and more nimble, but not now that age is starting to mount its ugly head.
Joyce (15-0, 14 KOs) will likely face Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) next if it fails to negotiate a bout with IBF/WBA/WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk in first quarter of next year.
“Of course, I want to fight Fury. It was a great fight. I’ve had some great innings and he’s the best in the division right now,” Joe Joyce told Queensbury by Frank Warrentalk about Tyson Fury.
“I will fight Fury. He’s a good man, a good fighter. I would love to join the challenge. I believe I will do my best,” Joyce said when asked if he could beat Fury. “Yes, I believe I can beat him, yeah.
“I fought him with swords, and we had some competitive contests. It will be the next level on a stage in the arena. Given the skills he possesses, it will be a tough fight, but I’m a boxer for a reason. I’m competitive, and I want to be on top and beat the best. So I will fight Fury.
“Yes, I am right here. [in position to fight for a world title]. In the new year, I will start with a kind fight. I think this summer will be the time for the main event on real trading against Fury, maybe.
“Of course, I want to fight the best. I’m getting location and queuing nicely for that. There are many fighters that have reached the elite level and a lot of exciting battles.
“Of course, you want to see Joe Joyce go up against Fury, Joshua, Ruiz and Wilder. There are many different names. I will go the strategic route, and whatever happens, that will be the path that I am fighting for.
“In the end, if all goes well,” Joyce said when asked if he would like to rematch Daniel Dubois at some point. “I have some other fights that people want to see first that I want to participate in, and I want to collect some more of them.
“I want to get a heavyweight title, defend it and get all the bells and whistles about it,” Joyce said.
