Last fall, both the United States and Canada lifted vaccination requirements for long-haul truckers to combat a series of supply chain disruptions. Those restrictions were brought back last month, and since then, Canada’s anti-vaxxers have been set up a convoy to protest COVID-19 vaccine missionsclosing roads and harming businesses.
The so-called “Freedom Convoy” has become a political spotlight, as many of the protesters have no ties to trucking, according to the Transport Alliance of Canada. It has been hailed by right-wing politicians obsessed with the culture of war in the United States such as Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and largely screen budget coming from right-wing donors in the USwith some of the largest donations made by kindhearted supporters of the Republican Party.
And so it’s the perfect place for The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper to do his job.
Klepper, of course, made a name for himself confront the deranged right-wing Americansare from those who are storming the Capitol try to overturn the next january 6th democratic election childish anti-vax protesters with a cult following for comparing the choice of vaccination to help avert a deadly global pandemic that has killed millions to Nazi Germany. His latest comedy “Finger on the Pulse” brought him to Ottawa to learn about why these protesters are making such a fuss.
“We don’t live in Germany… We don’t live in Nazi Germany. Those days are over,” one protester told Klepper. “Show me your paperwork doesn’t happen anymore. It is a freedom that everyone should have.”
“Is the comparison of Germany a stretch here with Canada?” Klepper counterattack.
“No,” he replied.
During his segment, Klepper encounters several protesters in the convoy, who also happened to be Trump supporters — and approached someone wearing a QAnon hat.
“I see ‘Q Army’ on your hat. Is Q what Americans are trying to figure out JFK Jr. are not? ‘ Klepper asked.
“Exactly…exactly,” the man replied.
Another conspiracy theorist Klepper came across said, “It’s more than just passports to vaccines and stuff… The 2030 Agenda is a good start… That’s where the world is headed. to a government. They want to sterilize us that only certain people can have children.”
