LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas judge told lawyers about Henry Ruggs III on Wednesday to receive their own subpoenas for fire department records about the fatal crash and previous fire. Raiders Wide receiver is allegedly caused by driving while intoxicated at speeds up to 156 mph.
Justice of the Peace Suzan Baucum told attorneys David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld during a brief hearing that she disagreed with the effort and that a court order from her was unnecessary.
Attorneys said in court filings that a witness told them firefighters were slow to put out the blaze in the car in which Tina Tintor, 23, died on Nov. 2. witnesses can be identified.
A Clark County spokesman said there were no delays in the fire response or attack on the fire.
Witnesses told police they tried to rescue Tintor. But they were turned back by heat and flames and smoke.
Ruggs, 22, was released by the Raiders after the crash. He was released on $150,000 bail under strict house arrest with electronic surveillance and alcohol testing four times a day while the case continued.
Records show that Ruggs owns a $1.1 million home not far from where the crash occurred.
He will have a preliminary hearing on evidence on December 16 on two counts of driving causing death or serious injury that could land him in jail for at least two years if convicted and at most. 40 years. He faces two additional felonies of reckless driving and one misdemeanor carrying a weapon after a loaded shotgun was found in his wrecked Chevrolet Corvette.
Authorities say Ruggs and his girlfriend, Kiara Je’nai Kilgo-Washington, were injured when Ruggs’ sports car crashed into the rear of Tintor’s Toyota Rav4, shattering the vehicle’s gas tank.
Prosecutors said Ruggs suffered a leg injury and Washington underwent surgery for an arm injury.
Chesnoff and Schonfeld are fighting separately to prevent prosecutors from accessing Ruggs’ medical records, and a lawyer for Washington has made a similar effort on her behalf. A hearing on December 8 is scheduled.
The Raiders picked Ruggs for the first time in the 2020 NFL draft from Alabama, where he helped the Crimson Tide win the 2017 NCAA Championship.
