Katherine Legge returns to Indy 500 decades after last run
Katherine Legge will try to qualify for her third Indianapolis 500 this year — her first IndyCar race since 2013 — in a car made by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Legge will enter the race in Honda’s 44th place with sponsorship from Hendrickson, a global suspension manufacturer and supplier. She was one of only nine women to compete in the Indy 500, placing 22nd in 2012 and 26th in 2013.
“I’m delighted to be back at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for the biggest race in the world, the Indy 500,” said Legge. “Bobby gave me my first chance to win team races in the Jaguar I-PACE line a few years ago, and it feels like homecoming to be back with the team.
“Race at Indy with the Indy 500 championship team and with Honda is a fantastic opportunity and one that I am very grateful for and intend to make the most of.”
Legge will be teammates with Graham Rahal, Christian Lundgaard And Jack Harvey. Rahal Letterman Lanigan wins Indy 500 2020 with Sato Takuma.
She has had 11 IndyCar starts in her career and the British driver competed in the IMSA GTD class in the Acura NSX GT3. She won one win, one column and three podiums with Rahal Letterman Lanigan in the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series during the ABB FIA Formula E 2018-19 season.
Legge competed full-time in the Champ Car World Series in 2006 and 2007.
Bobby Rahal said: “I have been a Katherine fan for many years and know that, in the right situation, she can compete and calculate the outcome at the end of the race. “She’s driven us before on Jaguar’s electric car show and has won poles in Mexico City and finished in the podium multiple times, so it’s great to have her back with us for the next time. first worked together at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
