Via Charles Brun: Kell Brook is open to a rematch with Amir Khan if he activates the clause in his contract for a second fight.
Brook (40-3, 28 KOs) not sure why Khan would want a second fight with him after the way he was blown away for six rounds in their fight last month on Feb. in Manchester, but he’s ready to put on his gloves for another round.
Some boxing fans believe Khan is just looking for an easy step beyond a payout from Kell to allow him to move forward against Conor Benn or Chris Eubank Jr. in domestic level dust matches.
Khan’s once brilliant speed of limbs has largely disappeared after returning to the ring after nearly 3 years of inactivity.
35-year-old Khan (34-6, 21 KOs) looks like a completely different person in the ring against Brook, and the way he performs it’s not something he’ll improve on no matter how many times he fights. . this point forward.
It’s hard to imagine being a promoter trying to sell 35-year-old Brook and Khan’s second fight to the British public on a pay-per-view basis.
With the way their previous battle was one-sided, the chances of a sale were slim and nonexistent. With that said, you can’t rule out the Khan-Brook rematch delivering significant PPV purchases if it’s marketed correctly with energy from both fighters.
I mean, if UK boxing fans were willing to buy Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte’s bouts on PPV, they would happily pay to see Khan and Brook rematch.
“If he wants another chuckle, he can have another chuckle,” Brook told Sky Sports News about Amir Khan.
“I don’t know what he could say and go back to the table. If he wants that rematch, I’ll brush off my gloves and do it again,” Brook said.
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn drums up a fight between Conor Benn and Brook. Hearn believes it will be a massive domestic fight and, obviously, he thinks Benn will win.
Otherwise, Hearn won’t let Brook get close to Benn, his young moneymaker, whose specialty is beating older boxers to their last legs. Hearn could make a BIG mistake if he let Benn fight Brook because he still looks dangerous, like an unclean 1940s landmine.
Hearn should team Benn against the Chris Algieri of the boxing world rather than pit him against Brook and watch him destroy the flawed son of British boxing legend Nigel Benn.
“I’m interested in the Eubank war and the fight with Conor Benn. I’m very interested in those matches,” Brook said.
“They’re big battles, they’re battles that I can definitely participate in, and they’re definitely crowd-pleasing battles.
“I can’t stand up for any fight. It needs to be something that I can try, to get a little bit of my teeth in,” Brook said.
Given Brook’s attitude about not being able to “get up to fight any war,” it’s easy to see why he hasn’t grown more in his career.
I mean, Brook should have done more than he’s done in the past six years since successive defeats to Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr.
Sadly, Brook can’t be motivated enough to get back to work like regulars for his job unless it’s up against the right opponent. What does that say about Brook?
When you see fighters like Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez work tirelessly on their skills and don’t complain about needing the right opponent, it’s disappointing to see Brook worrying about the need to move. force to return to work.
