Kelly Rowland knows how to blend modern and classic elements to create a perfectly balanced look. For the Glamor Woman of the Year Awards in New York City on November 1, the singer wore a fitted black dress by LaQuan Smith. Key details of her floor length dress from the New York-based designer include some CutAdds a modern and sexy touch to a simple gown.
The first two cuts are just below her shoulders, on either side of the false neckline that narrows into the y-shaped fabric covering her breasts. Contrasting with the large cuts on the bodice, the long sleeves are almost like a ruffle, blending seamlessly with the rest of the gown along the sides. To add a bit more dimension, the dress also has a third, much smaller cut just above her sternum.
For the most part, the negative space on the back of the cape reflects the large, symmetrical gaps from the front. But instead of emulating the third cut from the front, the back of the dress has a concealed zipper that aligns with the legs Canal right down to the center.
Rowland accentuated the dress’s modern details with subtle yet futuristic silver accessories like her lucite. L’afshar the top purse is reminiscent of a crushed mirror and stacked rings from Delfina Delettrez.
To contrast with the sleek, skin-tight silhouette of the dress, Rowland’s hair is monstrously tall and volume. The ends of her hair flared out at the bottom, giving it an old Hollywood look.
