Kolkata man, wearing shorts, turned away by State Bank of India
Kolkata:
While it can be reassuring to see some security at a bank, the fashion police can be one of the last things one would expect to encounter on a trip to a branch.
Earlier this week, a Kolkata man complained on Twitter that a branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) had refused to let him in because he was wearing shorts – the reason being that they wanted his customers to I “maintain politeness” at the branch.
In a tweet directed at the official SBI Twitter handle that went viral, the man, identified as Ashish, said, “Hey @TheOfficialSBI went to one of your branches today wearing shorts, was told I needed to go back to wearing long pants because the branch wanted customers to ‘maintain indecency’.”
“Is there some kind of formal policy on what customers can and can’t wear?” added tweets.

In the comments, Ashish also noted that this is clearly not the first time it has happened, and cited the case of a similar incident with a man from Pune in July 2017. Mr. again begged the State Bank of India for direction. him to their dress code policy.

Others suggested that the Kolkata man file a complaint with an “inspector” – a state-appointed official who can examine government operations for the benefit of its citizens.
On the flip side, some Twitter users denied that SBI engages in such activities, while others simply told the Kolkata man, “All you have to do is dress appropriately.” teh.”
State Bank of India also responded to the tweet, announcing that there is no dress code for bank customers and promising to review the complaint.

Some Twitter users seemed to find this post odd – one oral commenter asked, “You mean ‘they come to my house and fix the problem’? Are they giving you a gasp??? ” to which Ashish replied, “Yes, a nice pair of trousers from Peter England/s”.
However, on a more serious note, Ashish responded to his most recent post on the matter, saying, “Just being sensitive to customer behavior is enough. Thanks a lot for that. your help.”
