Largest Smart off-road concept preview ever
Smart has revealed its upcoming rugged off-road concept #5 mid-sized crossover at this year's Beijing auto show.
The car company co-owned by Geely and Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the mass production version of this concept car will appear in the second half of this year.
The Smart #5 will be the brand's biggest car ever and surpasses the existing car #first And #3 cross.
This particular concept is said to offer all-wheel drive and be powered by a battery pack of nominal capacity. over 100kWh. It has a declared range of more than 550 km according to WLTP test.
Features an 800V electrical architecture that allows the battery to charge from 10 to 80% in 15 minutes.
Externally, Concept #5 has a boxy, upright design similar to #1. Like some concepts, it lacks a B-pillar and has a passenger-car rear door. It's unclear whether this will carry over to the production model.
Other off-road-focused features include front and rear skid plates with hidden integrated winch and rear side steps for roof access, roof-mounted light bar, large all-terrain tires, side steps with lights and roof rack, among other features. .
Inside Concept #5 is a four-seat vehicle with a center console running along the middle of the cabin.
There are three OLED displays at the front spanning the width of the panel equipped with the high-performance AMD V2000 chip. Drivers can interact with these screens using an in-car virtual assistant.
Other interior features include ambient lighting, portable speakers and a zero-gravity front passenger seat.
At this stage, it is unlikely that Smart #5 will be offered in Australia as neither #1 nor #3 are available locally. Smart left the Australian market in 2015.
