Laurel Cancels Live Racing Monday
Returning from a brief hiatus with full programming on Sunday, January 16, Laurel Park was forced to cancel its holiday race pass on Monday due to the lingering effects of a passing winter storm. Midlantic on Sunday.
The Maryland track was closed for 18 days in late fall over safety and weather concerns despite the installation of a new multimillion-dollar surface. No live race has been held since January 2 before Sunday. A 30-minute video conference was held with members of the Maryland racing community and track executives on January 11 to discuss the timeline for a return to racing. Coaches largely favor a sooner rather than later approach, even with knowledge of the approaching weather system, as opposed to a more conservative plan that could delay the race. through Thursday, January 20.
The race is expected to resume on Thursday at Laurel.
