Laurel wreath impresses in Snowdrop
There’s a Perfect Reintroduction to Juddmonte’s Laurel Rising Star TDN (GB) (King {GB}–Prospective Leader {GB}, by Danehill) in Snowdrop Fillies’ S. listed Monday in Kempton as G1 runner-up Sun Chariot S. dominated the mile contest to lift higher than her already remarkable reputation. An 8-13 favorite for the stables John and Thady Gosden, daughter of G1 heroine Pretty Polly S. The promising lead soon hit the headlines with Ryan Moore happily taking on the lead role. Driven forward by a two-feather pole, the bay went far with his familiar quick and late splits to score a three-and-a-half long goal. Lighthouse (Ire) (Fascination Rock {Ire}) has a group 1 winner written on it.
John Gosden was delighted to receive Ryan Moore’s invaluable feedback afterwards and said: “Ryan is very pleased with her and he loves her very much. He gave me two options, so I’m going to scratch my head but I know what I’m doing with the first. The [G2] Duke of Cambridge [at Royal Ascot] was an obvious goal, but talking to Ryan that’s what we’ve been doing ever since. If it happens quickly in Newmarket [for the May 7 G2 Dahlia Stakes], he directed me to go elsewhere, which is very good advice. Thady mentioned a race in Ireland [the G2 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes]so that’s a possibility.
“She was extremely immature and weak at two years old and looked slow, but we didn’t push her and she pushed through and rewarded everyone. Her immaturity probably cost her the Chariot of the Sun and I don’t think she knew much about it either, as she hit her head and wandered around a bit. She is studying all the time. Her mother didn’t have much luck as a hen, but this one turned the tables.”
Likewise, the Promising Lead also came to life in the fall of her 3-year-old campaign, finishing second in the G1 Prix de l’Opera before winning G3 Middleton S. and G1 Pretty. Polly S. in her only two starts was in fourth place. Her first seven ponies, mostly ground boars, yielded six winners but none at the black type level despite her daughters Surcingle (Empire Maker) and Lupine (Medaglia D’Oro) is in turn responsible for GIII Berkeley H.-placed Sash (GB) (oasis dream {GB}) and G3 winner Tokinominoru Kinen was Phantom Thief (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB} respectively).
Half-brother with G3 Oak Tree S. and G3 Princess Margaret S. Visit (GB) (GB)oasis dream {GB}), who was also placed in Sun Chariot, GI Gamely S., GI Yellow Ribbon S., GI Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf and GI Matriarch S., she is the daughter of the listed winner. To (GB) (Kahyasi {Ire}) is the half-sister of the great Hasili (Ire).
