LDV launches new truck in Australia this year
LDV plans to ramp up its local commercial vehicle lineup this year with plans to launch a new mid-size van in the fourth quarter.
The unnamed mid-size truck will be available with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) powertrains, and three hood options.
In terms of size, it will fall below the best-selling LDV Deliver 9, rivaling the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Renault Master.
At this stage, LDV has yet to confirm any further information about this mysterious mid-size van. Much more will be imparted in due course.
We’re not sure if this LDV will be an all-new model or a version of an already revealed truck.
It’s also unclear whether it will be sold alongside or replace the existing one G10 valves which are also classified as medium.
However, we have some clues. Late last year, the company revealed Maxus V70 carrier – LDV uses the Maxus brand in other markets – has design elements reminiscent of Custom Ford Transit and Volkswagen Multivan.
This new mid-size truck is likely to be a stripped-down two-seater version of the V70 passenger engine – the same way the G10 has appeared in passenger and van variants.
Little is known about the V70 on SAIC Motor’s homepage, aside from the claim that it sits on a new architecture.
Reputable sources in China say that the V70 debuted with a 93kW 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission, with a claimed fuel consumption of 7.4L/100km. An EV version has yet to be revealed.
Seeing that there will be an electric version of this upcoming mid-size truck, it will join the recently launched lineup. electronic 9 big truck, eT60 dual taxis, and MIFA 9 movers in LDV’s growing local EV lineup.
Last year LDV sold 14,813 vehicles in Australia, led by the T60 ute. It also posted great growth from D90 The large, diesel-powered SUV Deliver 9 is the best-selling large truck in Australia and the smaller G10 is third Toyota HiAce and Download Hyundai Staria.
“Delivery 9 is a clear example of what the LDV brand is capable of,” said LDV general manager Dinesh Chinnappa.
“To gain the top spot in just two years requires a dedicated dealer network, excellent products and a great value proposition. We believe our future new product launches will be just as successful.”
Mr Chinnappa added: “Ultimately, we hope our new mid-size van will repeat the success of Deliver 9 and transform its respective segment as well.
