Lewis Hamilton kicks off diversity initiative with Extreme E
The Extreme E range of electric all-terrain vehicles launched an initiative on Monday to increase diversity in motorsport by providing opportunities for those from underrepresented groups.
The Racing for All initiative is based on the findings of a committee founded and sponsored by Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time British formula one world champion who also owns a team in Extreme E .
Each Extreme E team has only five mechanics or engineers to limit numbers on site in environmentally sensitive areas but will allow a sixth person to get hands-on experience.
Positions will be aimed at people with less than a year of professional motorsport experience and from women, minorities or lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
“We know from the Hamilton Commission’s findings that our industry is a difficult place to enter, especially for those from underrepresented backgrounds,” Hamilton said in a statement.
“When I first discussed the idea of creating a show with [series founder] Alejandro [Agag] and the Extreme E team, we all agree that is what leads to real change and I believe Racing for All will. “
Extreme E also features teams owned by retired F1 world champions Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg, as well as McLaren.
The series, featuring identical SUVs and male and female racers in every model line, aims to raise awareness about climate change and promote sustainability by racing in remote environments. and damaged.
