Lexus has brought four flashy concepts to the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon, which opens today in the Japanese capital. Concepts use Lexus’ SUV line as an oil canvas, showing what the company’s tall riding cars can look like with an array of bolted aftermarket parts.
The RZ Sport concept is based on the Japanese brand’s first electric vehicle, which will arrive in the United States earlier this year and offers an exaggerated bodywork. Two carbon fiber wings protrude from the roof and trunk while the powerful front end features blue accents and large carved air vents on the hood and fenders.
The RZ has also been lowered by 1.4 inches, with the aero propellers guiding the airflow behind the black 21-inch Volk Racing wheels wrapped in 295/35 rubber. The changes are even more profound, with the rear electric motor upgraded to match the 201hp front engine, increasing combined output from the standard 308hp to 402. Front and rear bucket seats complete sports car-inspired changes.
Lexus also revealed three adventure-ready concepts. RX Outdoor concept, built on new concept RX450h+, features aluminum sliding panels, LED spotlights on the front bumper and aluminum roof racks that support the roof tent. Custom black 18-inch Rays wheels wrapped in 265/60 all-terrain tires match the black outline of the crossover’s expressive bodywork.
The RX Outdoor is paired with the ROV Concept 2, an updated version of the side-by-side was revealed early last year. The ROV is mechanically unchanged, still powered by an improved 1.0-litre inline three-cylinder compressed hydrogen gas, but now the buggy has been repainted in a tan “Regolith” color. sunny like the RX concept and uses unique airless tires.
Finally, the GX Outdoor concept takes SUV GX 460 and added a roof rack for tents, supply containers, and Rigid light bars. A Warn electric winch and LED lights have been fitted to the front bumper, while a skid plate has been added. The rocker fender protects the beautiful green paintwork, and the GX rides on a custom suspension from Australia’s Old Man Emu. Toyo 275/65 off-road tires complete the changes for this particular GX.
