The life of ‘Rising Star TDN’ is very good (Into Mischief), the dominant winner of the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile on November 6, continues training towards his 4-year-old debut in the $3 million GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational on January 29 at Gulfstream Park.
Life Is Good was among two dozen horses taking a breather for trainer Todd Pletcher on Saturday morning at the Palm Beach Downs. He was counted at 1:00.41 (5/11) for five metal pieces.
“He is an extraordinary horse. He’s such a talented, gifted animal that when you watch him brag you’ll look at his chronograph and it’s not what you’d expect when he does. He does it too easily,” Pletcher said. “He continues to train very impressively. We are out for three weeks and we are happy with where we are. “
Not fear (Ghostzapper) worked half a mile in: 50.04 (15/25). He won four times in GIII Harlan’s Holiday S. December 18 at Gulfstream.
“Fearless continues to practice well. Happy with him,” Pletcher said. “We haven’t decided yet [what’s next]. I spoke to Mike Repole and right now we’re headed to the mile race [GIII Fred W. Hooper] that day on the card. “
Pegasus World Cup Turf . Candidates Colonel Liam (Map of Liam) and Never surprised (Organization) was also present on Saturday’s workbench. Colonel Liam, defending Pegasus World Cup Turf champion, went 5 times in 1:00.46 (6/11) while Never surprised, winner of the December 26 Tropical Park Derby at Gulfstream, has a half mile travel in: 51.01 (22 / 25). Colonel Liam has been on leave since placing eighth in the GI Manhattan S. in Belmont in June.
Sweet Melania (American pharoah), who claimed his third career win in GIII Suwannee River S. Dec. 18 at Gulfstream, is scoring for GIII Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf. She worked four feathers at: 50.32 (19/25).
“Colonel Liam, nice to see him again this morning. We’re on a tight schedule, but things have gone in the right direction so far and I think we’re approaching the race the way you’d hope. Never been surprised to come out of a tropical Derby so well, just a breeze of maintenance this morning. Happy with him,” Pletcher said. “Sweet Melania, she was fine this morning too. So far, everything is going according to plan.”
Pletcher said that Mo Donegal (Uncle Mo), the final winner of the GII Remsen S. December 4 at the Aqueduct, will have his second-year debut in the GIII Holy Bull S. February 5. Mo Donegal worked five trousers on 1: 00.46 (November 6) Saturday, his third breeze since arriving in South Florida.
“Very good work, happy with him,” Pletcher said. “He’s on schedule for Holy Bull.”
Pletcher also provided an update on the flashy Gulfstream first winner and ‘TDN Rising Star’ Emmanuel (More than ready). He was scratched from an optional claim grant on Friday at the Tampa Bay Downs.
“He raised his temperature to 102.5 the morning after we walked in,” Pletcher said. “It is frustrating. We’re hoping to get some two-way experience in Tampa. He’s fine, tomorrow he’ll be back on the track. Now we have to regroup and figure out that we’ll be back. “
