Long range MG ZS EV in Australia from March

A longer range Electric SUV MG ZS is on its way to Australia, with orders starting in March and a shipment already on board.

This ZS EV range comes with a 72kWh battery and a claimed 440 km WLTP driving range – compared to a 50 kWh battery and 320 km range for the ZS EV Standard Range.

Expect a price tag around $5000 above the standard range, which starts at $44,990 before on-road costs (varies by state).

MG Australia says its dealers have received numerous requests for the longer range model since the base model was updated in September 2022.

According to UK specs, the ZS EV Long Range has a 72.6kWh battery (68kWh usable) and a slightly skewed front-drive motor produces 115kW (versus 130kW). As a result, its 0-100 km/h acceleration is two-tenths slower at 8.2 seconds.

Its efficiency is 17.8kWh per 100km, compared to 17.3kW per 100km for the standard range.

After MG Australia offers long-range models and the standard ZS EV, it will turn its attention to the all-new MG 4 rear-wheel drive hatchback, which will launch this July with prices as low as 40,000 USD – based on overseas positioning against ZS.

That means in Q3 2023, the Chinese brand will sell a variety of electric vehicle options priced below Limited discounts available in Australian states and territoriesand are also priced below the corporate buyer benefit tax-free limit.

MG Motor Australia chief executive Peter Ciao said the company was keen to “continue to provide the best possible driving experience and make electric vehicles more accessible to all Australians”.
