What are dreams if not a vacation for the mind? Getting lost in a dream state is a temporary respite from the prison of the possible – a chance to experience the impossible for a second. If you cannot change your surroundings, you can at least change your perception of them. Vacations are dreams where you can actually change your surroundings. They are fantasies about how you might live if you were someone else, with a different life and different priorities. A whirlwind romance, a chance meeting that could change your career prospects, a series of terrible wardrobe choices that luckily none of your friends or colleagues Yours see. It's all possible on vacation. The greatest luxury of a vacation is the right to renew yourself, to see the world differently. And there's no better way to see the world than through a nice pair of sunglasses.

I own at least a dozen pairs, varying in price and quality – Gucci, la Eyeworks, Persol, Garrett Leight and maybe one or two from the trash at CVS. But if I were to imagine an ideal vacation, I would wish for these things Cartier Signature C sunglasses fell from the sky into my heart. A pair of statement sunglasses will frame your entire face, hiding your eyes and enveloping you in a sense of mystery that would otherwise be absent from your old, rough face. They also cover your surroundings in a haze, making everything you see more impressive.
The Cartier Signature C is rimless and comes in a variety of colors, I personally choose green lenses. So your vacation will always be green. But that natural reconsideration is what dreams are all about. Dreams are real usually does not occur with normal colors. They come in black and white or red or blue. The gold finish on the temples justifies the exorbitant price and attracts attention. There's a gentle curve to the bridge at the front of the frame and what almost looks like a horseshoe on the hinge connecting the temples to the lens. In all dreams, there is a bit of whimsy.

Trying out the Cs signature was an experience in itself. Cartier's boutique is a vast fantasy world, filled with objects that most people cannot afford but still desire. It's a favorite of celebrities and soon-to-be famous people. Recently, seeing Timothée Chalamet in a Cartier Crash watch made me want to sell all my plasma just to buy a replica watch. Tom Cruise wore a pair Cartier pilot in the latest “Mission Impossible” movie, and Michael Douglas wore one excellent couple as the obnoxious Gordon Gekko in Wall Street. Larger-than-life nuances for larger-than-life characters. The Cartier store is as sublime as the celebrities who wear their clothes, leaving an ordinary person like me in awe. I tried the Signature C and immediately wanted to take them off. Not only do I not want to break them and be stuck with a larger product, but I also don't feel like I should wear them. More so than the fancier frames I own, this is like fighting above my weight class. I trudged out as soon as possible.
For most, sunglasses are a disposable item – something to be lost on a long flight or accidentally sat on. My girlfriend has been through more than a few couples in the two years we've been together. That's what keeps most people from investing in a pair of luxury sunglasses. They cannot be investments because they will eventually disappear. This is why I dream of the Signature C. I can't think of anything more luxurious than taking something disposable and giving it a lift; become so rich and luxurious that something one accidentally drops down the drain or leaves in a hotel bathroom while on vacation can cost up to $1,200.

On my dream epic vacation, I spent most of the day by the pool. Everyone I meet smiles at me because I'm so interesting. My rare, incredible sunglasses are making people stop and look closely, wondering if I'm a celebrity or some visiting dignitary. I'm just a normal person on vacation, but they don't need to know that. Martinis magically appeared in my hand every few minutes, but I never got sick. For some reason, the rice balls at Capri Club were the only food offered, but I wasn't even at Eagle Rock. Everything I want is there, and everyone wants me there.
But why do we dream in the middle of the day? What makes us crave something more than what's right in front of us, especially here in LA, of all places? For decades, people have come to Los Angeles to pursue their dreams. As a great woman once said: “We came to this place because of the magic.” You hope that in LA you will be discovered, respected, elevated and understood. For most people, it doesn't happen or it happens on a much smaller scale than they imagine. And of course, not everyone's dreams are the same, although I suppose you could say that most of them involve becoming rich. Even if you don't explicitly want to become rich, that's a natural byproduct of success in the entertainment industry.

Reality of life here the necessity of survival, and the limits of each person's ambition gradually erode with their dreams. Pay your ever-increasing rent, bow to the whims of trillion-dollar corporations that treat your work as just a line on a spreadsheet, and boy, what about that traffic ? Finally, you roll your eyes when people talk about how hard it is to live in LA, because you are doing it. It's not a dream, it's reality. So, what does one do when living in a Dream Factory (or Dream Factory-Adjacent, if you're trying to save money)? They left.
Vacation is something not everyone can afford. Just taking a car and escaping the city is a luxury. A pair of sunglasses, even the most modest, can make the wearer feel like they are in heaven. That paradise may be Van Nuys, but it's all about perception. The way you look in a shopping mall or a gas station defines what it is and what it means. Maybe you can't stand eating the same food or looking at the same faces every day, but do you think that here, in LA, you're living a version of the dream that brought you here? Are not? Maybe you can't afford $1,200 worth of sunglasses (probably not), but you can always find a new way to see the world. And it's truly free.
