LSU Tigers start midfielder Max Johnson to join transfer portal
A week after announcing Brian Kelly as the new coach, LSU ready to lose the starting midfielder Max Johnson along with his brother, Jake, a highly regarded senior recruit.
Max Johnson announced on Tuesday that he plans to enter the transfer portal.
A sophomore and son of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, he emerged as the team’s starter late last year and appeared in every game this season.
He has thrown 27 touchdowns and six interceptions this season as LSU leads 6-6 (3-5 SECOND). He also runs for a point.
Jake Johnson, the last ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2022, has announced that he is opening his recruitment.
He originally committed to LSU in April when Ed Orgeron was still the team’s coach.
Orgeron and LSU agreed in October – less than two years after he led the show to the national championship – that he would give up to the side after the season.
Kelly, who signed a 10-year, $95 million contract plus incentives, was introduced as the show’s 34th head coach last week.
Immediately after Orgeron agreed to resign, the former defender of LSU Myles Brennan also entered the gate.
With Brennan and Johnson gone, LSU had only one scholarship QB left: a former four-star prospect Garrett Nussmeier, a freshman actually appeared in four games this season.
If Nussmeier plays in the Texas Bowl, he will lose the ability to redshirt this season, costing him a year of qualifying.
