LYNDON ARTHUR has warned Tunde Ajayi to purse his lips if he confronts Pat Barrett while the cameras aren’t rolling.
‘King’ coaches Pat Barrett and Ajayi’s handling of arch-rival Anthony Yarde had a feud filled with confrontation last month at a press conference to announce the major clash back to Light. -Heavyweight.
The fight will come to fruition when Mancunian Arthur risks his Commonwealth and WBO Intercontinental titles against Yarde at the Bronze Box Arena in London on Saturday 4 December, live on BT Sport.
It’s a rematch between Arthur’s decisive win over Ilford’s knockout artist last December and alongside the titles in sight, the winner can expect a double break next year. 2022 against WBO World Champion, Joe Smith.
The respect between the boxers is real, but there is little love between Ajayi and Barrett, whose infamous press conference appearance went viral.
Arthur, 30, said: “I don’t take Tunde’s talk of ‘the way’ too seriously. The beef between Tunde and Pat is due to them.
“I still don’t know if Pat is serious, but for me, Tunde is entertaining the public. Everyone watching was very happy.
“For one thing, I wouldn’t advise Tunde to go in the wrong direction of Pat somewhere that isn’t public.”
Lyndon had hoped for a shot straight on Smith and then defended against Yarde, but the rematch clause means a major domestic clash to round out Queensberry’s card for 2021 as stablemates meet together.
He added: “It’s a case of dismissing this fight and then the World title next year.
“When I say that, it doesn’t mean it’s a war I’m passing up. It’s huge because it’s the win that brings the World titles.
“Yarde and I are fighters and just want to settle our business next month.
“I guess Yarde and myself are the same people and whenever I meet him I don’t hold any grudges. He’s on my team and we have to fight.
“Maybe when I win again he can go to Manchester and have a night out or something like that.”
Since the controversial clash nearly 12 months ago, Arthur has seen nine rounds of action when he stopped David Faraci in July.
In Yarde’s only game, he needed less than three minutes to beat Alex Theran the next month.
Arthur says he has no operational advantage and insists: “A good fighter gets rounds in the gym. I don’t believe in rusty rings. As long as you are enthusiastic and work hard, it will work. “
