Lyon looks to the future with Flightline and its siblings
After watching her undefeated purebred feeling Flight route (Tapit) demolished the GI TVG Pacific Classic 19 1/4 yard Saturday length, Jane Lyon was as amazed as the rest of the racing world.
“It’s unbelievable,” Lyon said. “The fact that I bred it barely crossed my mind. I don’t acknowledge it because I think a horse like this is a gift. After not running until the age of 3, he seems to be getting better every day and more mature. He’s just getting into himself. It’s not something you can plan for. I’m very proud of him.”
Lyon was so amazed by Flightline’s latest achievement that she simply decided she couldn’t say goodbye to his half brother because Curlin and pulls the pony – who has been named Eagles Flight – from the September Sale at Keeneland next week.
“We’ll see what Flightline does in November [in the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic] and I will make my decision from that point on,” said Lyon. “I have cooperated with my two horses [out of Feathered]. I’ve been thinking about it and it’s hard to break up with him and [Into Mischief–Feathered] full, if Flightline is what they say. “
The breeder continued, “Someone interviewed me for a podcast, I think in Europe, and they met. [husband] Frank [Lyon] it’s along time. Anyway, one question they asked me was, ‘Well, after that race, what do you think Frank would say?’ I said he would probably say why don’t you keep all his? That really brings it to the point. “
When asked if Lyon would consider the above partners Curlin She said, “I didn’t make that decision. I need some time. My world just exploded last week. I need to enjoy it. Everyone who has come to see this pony has been very positive about it. If Flightline were capable of doing what he did at Del Mar in the Breeders’ Cup, I would have more people, if not more, interested in [the Curlin colt] afterward.”
Feathered’s other son, which Lyon co-owns, is Flightline’s full 2-year-old brother, Olivier. RNA’d colt for $390,000 at Fasig-Tipton’s Saratoga Sales last year, after which WinStar garnered most of the interest in gray. He trained at WinStar’s training center with Rodolphe Brisset and his last was in Keeneland, going five in 1:02.20.
Flightline’s MGSW Dam Has Feathered (Charlie India) Made a Dirty Into Mischief Movie This Year and Bred Again Tapit. The little girl will be kept by Lyon and one day she will join her dam in Summer Wind’s star-studded broodmare band.
“I will keep her too. She’s a lovely chubby person,” said Lyon. “She’s very independent.”
