Madhabi Puri Buch takes on the role of SEBI chief

Madhabi Puri Buch on Wednesday assumed the position of new chairman of market regulator Securities and Exchange Commission of India (SEBI), succeeding Ajay Tyagi, who has completed his five-year term.
Ms. Buch, the first woman to head the key financial regulator and also the first non-officer to lead it in many years, was appointed by the government to a three-year term this week.
Thanking Mr. Tyagi for his leadership and building the right foundations, she said, “looking forward to building on the solid foundation you’ve given us.”
She spoke at an event organized by SEBI to mark her assuming the position of team leader. Mr. Tyagi was also offended at the event.
Mr. Buch, who has been with the ICICI Banking team for the longest time, previously served as a Full-Time Member of the regulator until last October.
She has held important functions such as Department of Market Management, Department of Supervision and Regulation of Market Intermediaries, Department of General Supervision, Department of Investment Management and Department of Economic and Policy Analysis during the period. worked at SEBI before.
She served as the CEO of ICICI Securities, the brokerage arm of ICICI Group, and was also the CEO of the Board of Directors of ICICI Bank, according to an official statement.
