Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu, commanding officer of the 16th Bihar Regiment, who was among 20 soldiers who died in action during a brutal battle with the Chinese in the Galwan Valley east of Ladakh on May 15. 6 years ago, today. after being awarded the Maha Vir Chakra – the second highest chivalric title in wartime.

Colonel Babu was tasked with setting up an observation post in the face of the enemy, citing his award as saying he organized and informed his troops about the situation with a reasonable plan and successfully perform the task. “While holding position, his column faced stiff resistance from enemies attacking with sharp and damaging weapons along with heavy stones from adjacent heights,” reads the quote his.
“Undeterred by the aggressive and violent actions of the enemy’s superior strength, the officer with a true spirit of service before himself, continued to resist the enemy’s plot to repel the enemy’s troops. Indian team, it added.
Gallantry awards and Outstanding Service decorations were presented during a defense promotion ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
