Maju Varghese, Director of the White House Military Office of Indian descent, resigned for personal reasons.

In a series of tweets on Saturday, Varghese said leading the White House Military Office (WHMO) was the honor of a lifetime.

“Today was filled with emotions as the 2.5 year journey ended. So grateful to have served @POTUS and for the friendship that was forged during the difficult days of the first preliminaries, when we got points but tried back to win it all.

“Grateful to @BidenInaugural for giving the country a day to celebrate despite all the challenges we faced. Thank you to the men and women of the White House Military Office for accepting me and taught me about service and sacrifice,” he said.

A former member of the Obama administration, Varghese joins the Biden White House after spearheading the presidential inauguration efforts and serving as a senior adviser and chief operating officer for the 2020 presidential campaign. Biden, CNN reported on Friday.

Varghese “will leave his post on Friday after several years working in the orbit of President Joe Biden,” it said.

The White House declined to say whether a replacement had been selected.

“One thing I’ve learned during the two tours here is that this is a very demanding workplace and that’s because the work really matters, and we put our all into this… Right now , it’s best for me and my family that I should just try to strike a little more balance,” Varghese, who is in his late forties, told CNN.

However, he did not detail his further efforts.

As head of the military office, Varghese worked with the military branches responsible for supporting the president’s operations at the White House and on the road at home and abroad, including missions of the Air Force, secure communications via the White House Communications Agency, food service, medical units and Camp David, the presidential retreat frequented by the Biden family, the report said.

A lawyer by training, Varghese was born in the US to immigrant parents from Thiruvalla, Kerala. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherts.

Among the key challenges Varghese has faced over the past two years, the report says, is formulating the White House’s operational strategy for the campaign, inauguration, and military support amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jen O’Malley Dillon called Varghese “one of the most talented, trusted, and tested leaders on Team Biden.”

“As the country faced incredible crises a year ago, he led the team that orchestrated an unforgettable, historic inauguration that set the tone of our first year in power. .

“Maju not only embodies the President’s core values, but instills them in all of us through his service, optimism, and heart,” Dillon was quoted as saying in the report.

In his tweet, Varghese thanked Dhillon and others for trusting him to lead the teams “throughout this incredible journey”.

“In serving the two Presidents and in the spirit of my father, I have tried to lead with all my heart. Thank you for everything, team! You will always have me as a friend and companion. smart,” he said.

Varghese previously served in the White House under President Barack Obama in a variety of roles, including assistant to the president for management and operations and former deputy director.
