Man, 21, charged in connection with ‘suspected hate-motivated incident’ in Toronto: police – Toronto
A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a suspected hate crime incident in Torontosaid the police.
In a press release, Toronto Police said Wednesday that officials received reports of a suspected hate crime incident at a school in the Lawrence Avenue West and Bathurst Street areas.
Police said a man was riding his bicycle through the school campus and was confronted by students.
Officers said the man returned a short time later and “started yelling at the student”.
According to police, the man made objectionable comments.
Officers said he confronted school staff and a physical confrontation took place.
Police said an employee is believed to have been threatened and assaulted.
According to police, 21-year-old Kyle McLeod from Toronto was arrested.
He was charged with disorderly conduct, intimidation, assault, assault with a weapon and dangerous weapon.
Police said he is scheduled to appear in court on July 28 in Toronto.
Officers said investigators believe this is an isolated incident.
“The Toronto Police Department’s Hate Crimes Unit has been involved and this is being investigated as a suspected hate-motivated incident,” the statement read.
