Manchester City vs. West Ham United – Football Report – November 28, 2021
Snow may have slowed proceedings at the Etihad on Sunday but it didn’t stop City of Manchester from winning 2-1 against the top four contenders West Ham United.
Unlike Tottenham Hotspur compare to Burnley which had been postponed earlier in the day, the Manchester game was on but it was sometimes difficult to see the pitch through the heavy snow. The start of the second half was delayed by 5 minutes as the owner tried to clear the field.
Ilkay Gundogan broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Joao Cancelo hit the ball from the right cánh Riyad Mahrez. NS Algeria international then set up the Gundogan for a simple tap on the net.
Fernandinho add a second to 90 minutes with one of the first touches of the game after a substitution Raheem Sterling at the 87th minute.
City took a short corner that West Ham’s defense momentarily left, allowing Fernandinho’s shot to sink into goal.
West Ham had a couple of promising attacks with one of the most frustrating chances coming in the second half. Vladimir Coufal and Michael Antonio both dribbled the same ball allowing City a chance to clear the ball and avoid danger.
They ended up scoring deep into extra time when Manuel Lanzini Fernandinho saved and volley sent the ball wide of the post.
Victory sees City overcome Liverpool claim second place in the Premier League table while West Ham are further behind the top three, currently five points behind the Merseyside club.
