Tuesday Guardians of the Galaxy Simply put, one of the best Marvel movies produced since… ever? I laughed, I cried, I gasped, etc, etc. And while a high score is always strong advice, it’s something I’m really begging Marvel to heed after this stellar trilogy. . But, of course, based on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3of the two credits scenes, the studio probably wouldn’t do it.

It stars Rocket Raccoon (greatly voiced by Bradley Cooper), who spends most of his time in a coma in his hospital bed; instead, we enjoy flashbacks to his terribly traumatic childhood, during which he and his other animal friends were manipulated and abused by a mad scientist The madman is known only as the Highly Evolved Man (Chukwudi Iwuji).
Now that Rocket is back in action, thanks to his friends obtaining the tools needed to revive him, he has been taken over for the Guardians crew. (The real Star-Lord leader, aka Peter Quill, aka Chris Pratt, bailed out the team to reunite his family back to Earth, leaving Rocket in charge.)
That new team, as we see in this mid-credits scene, includes some familiar faces and a few less familiar ones. There’s his good friend Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), now an adult again; Cosmo the talking space dog, the perfect, wonderful good boy (voiced by a perfect, wonderful good woman Maria Bakalova); and Kraglin (Sean Gunn), an enemy who becomes a friend of the OG Guardians and a sworn enemy of Cosmo. We also meet Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), a very childish, gilded, tamed creature, along with his pet, Blurp.
Then there’s Phyla-Vell (Kai Zen), one of the young girls rescued by the Guardians after defeating High Evolutionary, Rocket’s one-time captor who traps and experimented with countless other species. She is not explicitly named in the film, but she is praised during the credits. Comic fans will recognize the name and know that Phyla is a big deal, even if this one scene doesn’t give her too much depth. The rest of us will appreciate her taste of mainstream teen-girl music.
These characters are all Guardians from different manga series, so classically the new lineup makes sense. And it’s a cute scene—we’re happy to see the giant nerd Rocket make new friends, whose musical tastes he immediately bakes and then evaluates based on the cool factor. their. They’re ready to go on some new adventures and I’m really happy for them.
Then, forever after, we see the post-credits scene: a quick check-in with Peter. For the first time in decades, he’s hanging out with his grandfather (Gregg Henry in old man costume), eating cereal on the kitchen table. It’s life in a small town whose title card promises won’t go on forever: Star-Lord will return.
That’s not surprising, given that Marvel introduced its entire new crew of Guardians in the credits. These characters have emerged out of nowhere to amass a huge fan base of their own, a group that Marvel would be silly to abandon. However, with director James Gunn, the man who Marvel was fired shortly in 2018 via old tweets, only for the cast who successfully protested his restoration work—divided to take over DC Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy will never be the same again in any sense.
We love Rocket, Groot, Peter, Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and especially Cosmo, it’s time to pause their story. Yes, they should absolutely make guest appearances in future MCU movies. Star-Lord shouldn’t be gone forever, living a peaceful life in some random town. He is a superhero! And one of the more fun, more fun! And if I really have to, I’ll obviously take the new 700 guard movies from random directors on a single movie the eternal next part.
But Gunn was a key factor to the success of the franchise, as was the core composition of that original team. guard‘ the chosen ragtag family, led by goofy, horny, tune-loving Peter Earthling, was built to perfection. Rocket’s growl is the perfect complement to Drax’s sweet innocent lack of self-consciousness, while Mantis is a good shield for the Eternally Angry Nebula.
On top of that, with the heartbreaking love story between Peter and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) having a mature ending in this third installment, it would be a mistake to try to force the new core drama into play. But love and relationships are at the core of guard that would also feel wrong, that’s why it’s better… no other. Individual crew difficulties — to feel loved; feel seen; feel useful—all are pleased with the intimate way this film works, allowing each character to successfully find their true purpose. Let’s not spoil that progress.
Emotional storytelling, second only to similar family dynamics of Avengers film, which is perfectly accompanied by Gunn’s Weird Directing Style. After all, he comes from a B-movie background; His love of grotesque, over-the-top action, elaborately choreographed murders, and darkly humorous deaths helped guard stand out above the lackluster action of the rest of the Marvel pack. There’s a beautiful fight scene in this third entry that I’m still thinking about, it’s My best Gunn (and crossed the line by standard Marvel standards). I can’t imagine any of the MCU’s regular hires being able to film something like this exhilarating crew-kill rampage, allowing each character’s specific abilities to shine through. light in all carnage.
Have zero chance that Gunn will come back to make another one guard movie; DC will never allow that. And many members of the cast have express interest IN continue from the MCU to other projects, now the trilogy is complete. While I’ll be missing out on a more than two-hour adventure with Rocket Raccoon, by far my favorite MCU character, he and the rest would be better served as cameos. , which aims to amuse us and remind us of the good times.
But alas, Star-Lord will return. The new Guardians team is assembled. Phase 5 is underway, and Phase 6 is in the planning stage. The MCU will trudge to the required, repetitive and guard will follow it. No, no Guardian 4 It’s still a work in progress—but there’s still plenty of time for that to unfold.
