Mating Plan 2023, presented by Spendthrift: Denali Stud
As we approach the start of the 2023 breeding season, TDN staff once again sit down with top breeders to find out which stallions they chose for their mares and why. Today we spoke with Conrad Bandoroff at Denali Stud.
LIAM’S TRAVEL (m, 4, Map of Liam – Promenade Girl, by Carson City) bred as make for curly
We just bought this mare with some partners during the January Sale and were delighted to have her. She comes from the MGISW Cavorting (Bernardini) family, who produced MGISW Clairiere (make for curly). She is an attractive horse with many qualities and would be a good fit make for curly pretty good. It has worked in the family before!
HARD NOT LIKE (m, 14, Spin hard – Like a Gem, of Tactical Cat) was bred to life is good
As a multi-class I winner, this is the mare we have always believed in. Her 3-year-old pony Faustin just turned 3 (make for curly) is known as ‘TDN’s Rising Star’ after winning the first sprint. He has a lot of work to do, but it looks like he could make a proper Saturday Afternoon Horse.
I’ve always wanted to breed her with the Into Mischief and life is good was a perfect physical match for her. She is a hardy mare and needs a bit of size and range from the stallion. This is the same cross that created GSW Gerrymander (Into Mischief).
LADY APPLE (m, 7, make for curly – Miss Mary Apples, by Clever Trick) was bred to gunman
Last year, Lady Apple gave birth to her first pony, a foal made by Quality Sugar, which we really like. She is everything you look for in a first pony – good legs, strength and good quality to her. She is carrying and will soon be a naughty pony, so she starts at every opportunity. She is a classified multiple-stakes winner who has placed in the GI Kentucky Oaks. Her lineage continues to blossom under the stewardship of KatieRich’s Larry Doyle with her 3-year-old half-sister who recently became American Apple (American Pharoah), a bet winner is classified in two.
gunman No introduction is needed and you just consider yourself lucky to have a mare that can warrant a visit to him. This can get you a serious racehorse.
DREAM TREE (m, 8, Uncle Mo – Afleet Maggi, by Afleet Alex) was bred to Flight route
A two-year-old GI Starlet S. winner, Dream Tree got off to a good start in her incubation career. Her first pony, a make for curly dirty, sold for $700,000 to David Ingordo at last year’s Keeneland September Sale. She has a pony longing for a promising Into Mischief and is expecting a gunman for this year. She is a beautiful, strong mare.
This is a mating we are excited about. faucet did a great job with the Indian Charlie mares. Flight route I am a prime example. We were intrigued by this 3×3 to Indian Charlie car and thought it could produce a tremendous amount of speed. A generational talent in Flight route combined with an agile, precocious mare – a promising and powerful combination, we hope!
PATH (m, 5, Uncle Mo – Dothraki Queen, bred by Pure Prize) to form Into Mischief
She is a Uncle Mo daughter of GII winner Pocahontas S. and Dothraki Queen placed in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Pathetique itself has a lot of possibilities. She broke her maiden second at Saratoga for owner Richard Rigney and coach Phil Bauer and was a slut of caliber, but unfortunately got injured. She is very fast. Very fast.
We decided to breed it to Into Mischief because we thought this would make for an extremely fast horse.
STOP TAMMY SHOPPING (m, 6, faucet – Miss Shop, of the Vice Minister) was bred to make for curly
This is the daughter of faucet for which we have high hopes. She’s not Miss Shop, the 1st place winner and Tin Type Gal’s half-sister who won the graded bets. She is a gorgeous horse that is physically fit make for curly very good. On paper, it is a high yielding crossover and is responsible for MGISW Cody’s Wish (make for curly), not to mention its return to AP Indy, magic make for curly overcome.
PRINCIPAL WINE (m, 14, Ghostzapper – Azeri, by Jade Hunter) was bred to Structure
She is a Class II and Class III bet winner by Horse of the Year and Horse of the Year. Now 14 years old, what we like about her is that four of her five racing-age ponies have entered the races, won New York, shown a lot of promise, are healthy. and earned more than $100,000.
We still feel she can make a good horse. Smoken’ T’s 4-year-old daughter (War front) has a sign of one and is bet. He will start what we hope will be a good campaign this year.
we rate Structure as an emerging top stallion. We really like the momentum he gets in some really good crops in the waves. We chose Structure because Ashiham and Felix the Fox, her two sons faucethas talent and we want to send her back faucet line.
