Matt Hagan breaks Virginia Motorsports Park record in Funny Car Qualifiers
DINWIDDIE, Va. – Matt Hagan ran the fastest fun car run in Virginia Motorsports Park history Saturday to qualify for the lead in the Virginia NHRA Nationals.
Hagan sped past 3,853 seconds at 331.45 mph in Tony Stewart Racing’s Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat to claim a second No.1 spot for the season and 44th overall.
“I can’t say enough about this race car,” Hagan said. “This is probably the best start I’ve had in my career at the NHRA and [crew chief] Dickie Venables and all the people who are putting this together are doing great. Tony is the type of person you want to have. You look at all the things he’s done and it’s just a thing of respect. You want the prince to be proud of you. “
Brittany Force is the fastest in the Top Fuel and Angie Smith is at the top of the Pro Stock Motorcycle lineup, also with a run record.
Force topped her sixth run record twice on Saturday, finishing with 3,654 at 333,333. Smith has 6,756 at 201.37, above Buell.
