Matt Hagan gives Tony Stewart Racing his first NHRA drag race win, and ‘it’s pretty awesome’
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three-time Fun Cars season champion Matt Hagan handed Tony Stewart Racing his first win at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series on Sunday, racing to his first career win at the historic Gatornationals in the US. Gainesville Raceway.
On the final lap, Hagan powered his Dodge Charger Hellcat SRT for 3,910 seconds at 330.96 mph to beat Blake Alexander for his 40th career win and the first in his career. three races this year with Tony Stewart Racing.
“To have this first win at the Gatornationals and Tony Stewart’s first win in a trailer, it’s been amazing,” Hagan said. “I’m very fortunate and humbled to be here, and for all the fans who were present, to get this first win at the Gators, it’s unbelievable.”
Hagan joins Tony Stewart Racing’s freshman year in the offseason and the Virginia driver has number 1 qualifying and a pair of finals for the Stewart-owned team.
“This is pretty bad, especially at Gatornationals,” says Stewart. “We have two great teams that work really hard. I’m really proud of all of these guys.”
Tripp Tatum won in Top Fuel, Dallas Glenn in Pro Stock and Karen Stoffer in Pro Stock Motorcycle.
Tatum claimed his first career win a day after claiming his first career #1, beating Doug Foley with 3,700 and 330.31 in the final round.
Glenn got his fourth career win, beating teammate Kyle Koretsky with 6,486 at 210.21 as Camar.
Stoffer ended a record-breaking day with her 11th career win, surpassing 6,7000 at 200.77 on her Suzuki in her first race of the year in the category. She ran the fastest in class history early in the day, reaching 6,665.
