Mavericks’ Luka Doncic second fastest with 50 triple triples
Dallas Mavericks Super star Luka Doncic beat Los Angeles Lakers Legendary Magic Johnson hit the 50 triple-double mark in one game.
Doncic’s performance of 33 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists in Friday’s 127-99 win over the visitors Denver nuggets making him the 10th player in NBA history to score 50 doubles three times in his career.
Doncic scored the feat in his 278th career game, one less than Johnson. Only Oscar Robertson (111) needed fewer matches to get 50 triple triples.
Mavs coach Jason Kidd, who played 649 games to score 50 doubles three times in his playing career, said: “He rewrote the record book. “That’s pretty cool. … Oscar is pretty special, so now being right behind Oscar at second-fastest after 50 just shows you how special he is.”
This is also the 25th time Doncic has scored at least 30 points in a triple triple. That ranks fifth in NBA history, according to ESPN Stats & Information research, just behind Robertson, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James and James Harden.
Doncic, 23, who is leading the league in goalscoring record, has four 30-point doubles in 14 games this season. The rest of the NBA just merged into one, by Toronto’s Pascal Siakam.
As usual, Doncic doesn’t have much to say about joining the exclusive historical statistics company, something he has done regularly throughout his five-year NBA career.
“It was amazing,” said Doncic. “Every time you ask me, I get the same answer. I’m happy. I’m really glad I’m here and doing this.”
