Next generation Mercedes-AMG GT the two-door coupe seems to have suffered a premature lid failure.
Instagram users Liucunyi_starandcar shared what appears to be a screenshot of the new GT, revealing an evolution of the current car’s short hood, long bonnet styling.
With the prototypes already spying in 2022a reveal is therefore expected sometime this year.
While spy shots have revealed the familiar proportions of the new GT, this leaked image gives us a better look at its details.
Design changes here have also been evolved. There’s still the large Panamericana grille with vertical chrome slats, as well as swept-back headlights. The fender vents seem thinner than before.
The overall styling is a bit more rounded than the previous model, as have been other recent Mercedes products, but still has muscular lines and solid overhangs.
with Latest SL has been developed by AMG, the new GT will serve as a coupe counterpart and will share its Modular Sports Architecture (MSA) platform.
As such, we can expect to see the SL’s powertrain incorporated into the GT sedan, although it’s unclear if the GT will retain the SL’s rear seats.
A plug-in hybrid version of the new two-door GT has been track tested, distinguished by its circular (instead of square) outlets and the signature charging outlet at the rear.
The SL lineup now kicks off with the SL 43, turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine, which has a 48V mild-hybrid system and produces 280kW of power and 480Nm of torque.
Above it are the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8s SL 55 4Matic+ and SL 63 4Matic+, with the front producing 350kW and 700Nm and the rear producing 430kW and 800Nm.
Plug-in hybrid variants may carry SL 53 and SL 63 E Performance badges.
The GT 63 SE Performance will likely use the plug-in hybrid 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 powertrain from the unrelated 63 SE Performance variant of the unrelated Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, which has a total system output of 620 kW. and 1400 Nm.
In contrast, the less powerful GT 53 can use the turbocharged 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid powertrain seen in the new model. Performance C63 SE.
In the C63, this produces a total power output of 500kW and 1020Nm.
