Mercedes-Benz CEO hints A-Class could be destroyed – report
Mercedes-Benz may dump one or more of its inputs in the not-too-distant future.
Based on AutocarOla Källenius, the automaker’s CEO, told attendees at the Future Automotive Summit led by Financial Times: “We will talk more next week, but our goal is not to be a rival to the bulk manufacturers.
“That is not what the Mercedes-Benz brand stands for. So stay tuned as far as our product catalog is concerned. But we would rather look up than down.”
It is unclear which model Källenius is referring to, but the company has a number of products using the front- and all-wheel drive MFA2 architecture, including A class sedan and hatch, CLA “Four Door Coupe”, B-Class small athlete, GLA five-seat crossover, and GLB seven-seat crossover. There are also based on GLA EQA EVs.
The A-Class is currently the oldest model on that list, having debuted in 2018. In the markets where it’s sold, it serves as the entry point to the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
Mercedes-Benz recently announced the A-Class sedan will be withdrawn from the US market by the end of 2022, with the CLA and GLA becoming the brand’s most affordable models there.
While we don’t keep any inside information secret, the A-Class, with its slim margins, and the B-Class, which appeals mainly to European buyers, are the cars with the most capabilities. most likely to malfunction.
If the A-Class is given a layoff, it is likely to be deported at the end of its current life, as upgraded prototype was followed up back in December.
Like its German luxury rivals, Mercedes-Benz has prioritized production of larger and more profitable models since the semiconductor shortage occurred.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz has long talked about mass reductions in models with internal combustion engines to free up space and development funds for new all-electric models, such as the EQE, EQE. SUVs, EQS and EQS SUVs.
To this end, the company ditched the hardtop SLK/SLC and two-door S-Class models. It will soon merge the C-Class and E-Class coupes and convertibles into one product line.
