Mercedes-Maybach SL concept teased | CarExpert

Mercedes-Benz gave us our first look at Maybach SL roadster concept, part of a move to expand the range of premium vehicles.

An image of the concept has been shared by Mercedes-Benz chief designer Gorden Wagener on Instagram account.

The image shows the front end of the Maybach SL, including the classic Maybach chrome grille, the three-pointed star emblem, the imprinted Maybach logo and the two-tone red-black color scheme.

The Maybach SL concept model has the same color combination as Mercedes-Maybach Concept EQSwhich previewed an upcoming Maybach version of the EQS SUV.

It is not clear how this Mercedes-Maybach SL concept will be different from the regular version Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster, but aside from the teaser image, the concept’s bonnet has a unique twist rather than the protrusion of the regular SL’s power.

For now, Mercedes-Benz is keeping the details of the Maybach SL concept under wraps, and Wagener says it’s “for customers who want a refined luxury driving and design experience.”

It is not yet clear what will lie under the bonnet of this Mercedes-Maybach SL. The most powerful SL model available today is the SL 63 4Matic+, powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 430kW of power and 800Nm of torque.

There is also an even more powerful plug-in hybrid (PHEV) E Performance version of the SL in production, which is expected to have the same 620kW and 1400Nm of output as the AMG GT63 SE Performance.

The teaser image also shows links to the 2017 Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet concept that was first revealed and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as an all-electric convertible.

Mercedes-Maybach no longer exclusively offers V12 engines after the GLS600 SUV was equipped with a V8 engine, so such an engine is not guaranteed.

Mercedes-Benz recently confirmed they are cutting back on the number of small models they offer while release more premium cars as it targets higher profits.

One of these premium vehicles is the aforementioned Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, which is scheduled to launch in 2023.

In addition to more exclusive collectible versions under the Maybach brand, such as Virgil Abloh’s Maybach Limited EditionMercedes-Benz is introducing a new program of “exclusive collectibles”.

These will appear under the Mythos Series banner and will be reserved for the most dedicated Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts and collectors.
